For Physicians and Clinics
Clear submission guidelines, courier collection from your office, and fast electronic results. This page covers everything your practice needs to refer specimens to NCL.
How to Submit Specimens
Fill out a cytology requisition form in full for every specimen: patient name, date of birth, specimen source, collection date, clinical history, and the referring physician's name and contact details.
Label each specimen container or slide with the patient's full name and a second identifier, matching the requisition exactly. Unlabelled or mismatched specimens cannot be accepted.
Place slides in rigid slide mailers and vials in sealed, upright, leak-proof packaging. Keep the requisition form separate from the specimen container in case of leakage.
Call the laboratory to arrange courier collection from your office or clinic, or deliver specimens directly to 113A Collins Avenue during opening hours.
Results are returned to your practice electronically. Call us to set up electronic result delivery, or to follow up on any submitted case.
Specimen Standards
To protect patients and the integrity of results, the laboratory cannot accept specimens that do not meet basic standards. The following will be rejected or held pending correction:
If a specimen is held, the laboratory will contact your office promptly so the issue can be resolved.

Accepted referral forms include the NCL cytology requisition form, available from the laboratory. Printed requisition pads can be supplied to your practice on request.
